Friday, May 12, 2006 ::: THE WORLD DIDN'T STOP THERE It was just one heap, one jump, one leap of faith - whatever that is. And a life could end just like that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging anyone here. But the fact was, The world didn't stop right there. People keep living. Or making a living, I should say. ECG machine records a flat line. Doctors busy doing the documentation, while just 5 feet away another patient was being resuscitated by another doctor, who obviously didn't care. Family came in. You then hear the most painful sound you could ever hear in your life. But the world didn't stop there. The weeping and mourning was real. The patient lying next to the curtain was still showing signs of life. Doctors kept documenting what happened. There was no background music you hear in movies whenever someone passes away. The world just didn't stop there. Some time was given. 5 minutes perhaps. Then instructions were given - like 'now you should go there, sign those papers, then go somewhere else, and sign some more papers... ' It's all part of the procedure, and part of the protocol. The attitude wasn't bad at all. Not particularly sincere, but not totally indifferent. That woman was trying, I can tell. But at that moment who really cares about paperwork. Who would even want to be told what to do. Yet it's still part of the procedure and it has to be done. Someone's gone. But a new piece of paper has to be printed for 'documentation'.
